JAN 14, 2026

Good morning!

While you were sleeping, the prediction market whales were busy. Here's what the smart money is betting on, plus today's top bond picks across sports, finance, politics, and tech.

News Briefing

It has been a chaotic day where the only thing rising faster than gold prices is the geopolitical tension. President Trump is currently feuding with everyone from Fed Chair Jerome Powell (calling him "lousy") to the entire nation of Denmark over his desire to control Greenland, all while slapping new tariffs on countries trading with Iran. On the corporate front, luxury giant Saks Global officially filed for bankruptcy.

While Wall Street stumbled as bank earnings kicked off and investors realized that shiny metals might be safer than stocks right now. In short: the markets are twitchy, the White House is loud, and your jewelry box is likely outperforming your 401(k).

Trade Idea

Trade Idea Chart

The Objective: To construct a "risk-free" upside bet on Crude Oil (CL) by exploiting a temporary market inefficiency: the extreme correlation between oil prices and prediction markets. We effectively replace a standard Option Premium (which decays) with a Prediction Market Hedge (which pays us if the thesis fails).

Our thesis is validated by a 12-day correlation coefficient of 0.84 between WTI Crude prices and the "US Strikes Iran" prediction market contract.

The Implication: Oil is currently trading strictly as a proxy for war risk.

The Edge: Because these two assets are moving in lockstep, we can mathematically rely on the "Peace Floor." If the war probability evaporates, Oil will crash, ensuring our hedge triggers exactly when our long position fails.

The Structure: Leg 1 (Asset): Long 24 units CL-USDC Perp (Hyperliquid) @ ~$60.90. (Leverage: 3x).

Leg 2 (Hedge): Long 167 shares "NO" (US Strikes Iran) @ $0.30.

Total Cost: ~$50.00 (Treated as execution cost/insurance premium).

Scenario Analysis (The "Zero-Downside" Arb):
Scenario A: Peace / De-escalation (The Hedge Saves Us)

Market Action: War probability collapses. As per the 0.84 correlation, Oil prices retreat to the "Peace Floor" of ~$56.00. Leg 1 (Oil): ~$117 Loss.

Leg 2 (Hedge): The "NO" contract pays out $1.00/share. ~$117 Profit.

Net PnL: Breakeven ($0).

Scenario B: War / Escalation (The Upside)

Market Action: Conflict escalates. Oil spikes to $70+ (pricing in supply shock).

Leg 1 (Oil): ~$218+ Profit.

Leg 2 (Hedge): Expires worthless (-$50).

Net PnL: +$168.

Risk Profile

Basis Risk (The "Decoupling"): The primary risk is that the 0.84 correlation breaks. If Oil drops due to macro-economic weakness (recession fears) rather than geopolitical de-escalation, the "NO" hedge may not payout, leaving the Oil loss unhedged.

Execution: The prediction market has a hard expiry of Jan 31. The position is time-sensitive.
