Good morning!

While you were sleeping, the prediction market whales were busy. Here's what the smart money is betting on, plus today's top bond picks across sports, finance, politics, and tech.

News Briefing

🪓 Block on the Chopping Block: Dorsey’s AI Pivot
In one of the most dramatic tech shake-ups of the year, Jack Dorsey is slashing the workforce at Block (the parent company of Square and Cash App) by nearly half. Over 4,000 employees are being shown the door, shrinking the company from 10,000 to just under 6,000.

The kicker? Dorsey insists the company is not in financial distress. In a lengthy note to staff, he explicitly stated that gross profit is growing and the business is strong. So, why the mass exodus?

The AI Takeover: Dorsey says rapid advances in "intelligence tools" have fundamentally changed what it means to run a company. He believes a significantly smaller, flatter team equipped with AI can simply "do more and do it better."

Ripping the Band-Aid Off: Rather than subjecting employees to agonizing, slow-drip layoffs over the next few years, Dorsey chose a single, massive cut to preserve trust and morale among those staying.

The Landing Pad: Affected employees are receiving a cushion, including 20 weeks of severance (plus one week per year of tenure), six months of healthcare, and a $5,000 transition stipend.

It is a brutal day for those 4,000 workers, but Dorsey's move is a very stark, real-world example of how AI is actively transitioning from a tech buzzword into a structural head-count replacement.

🌍 Around the Globe: Politics, Paramount, and Protests
Hillary’s Closed-Door Encore: Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spent six grueling hours in a closed-door deposition with the Republican-led House Oversight Committee regarding the Jeffrey Epstein files. She emerged to publicly slam the hearing as "repetitive" and "partisan political theater," demanding the immediate release of the transcripts.

The Streaming Wars Plot Twist: Netflix has officially swiped left on acquiring Warner Bros. Discovery assets. Why? Paramount swooped in with a superior $31-per-share offer. The WBD board took the bait, and Paramount even agreed to foot the massive $2.8 billion breakup fee WBD owes Netflix.

State of the Union Hangover: The political arena is still buzzing with fallout from President Trump’s record-length State of the Union address. The partisan divide remains as sharp as ever, with Democrats protesting his rhetoric and the GOP mobilizing to execute his legislative priorities, including a controversial move to temporarily halt over $250 million in Medicaid funds to Minnesota in a "war on fraud."

High-Stakes in Geneva: U.S. and Iranian officials are locked in tense, high-stakes nuclear negotiations in Geneva. The diplomatic talks are unfolding against the backdrop of one of the largest U.S. military buildups in the Middle East in decades.
