Good morning!
While you were sleeping, the prediction market whales were busy. Here's what the smart money is betting on, plus today's top bond picks across sports, finance, politics, and tech.
🏦 Finance & Markets
S&P 500 hits 2026 low, closes at 6,632 — The index fell 0.6% to its lowest close of the year on Friday as surging oil prices fueled by the U.S.-Israel-Iran conflict rattled equities. The Dow slipped 119 points to 46,558 and the Nasdaq fell 0.9% to 22,105. All three major averages logged a third straight losing week, each down at least 1%.
Fed meeting Wednesday — rates expected on hold — The FOMC concludes its March meeting Wednesday. With energy-driven inflation spiking, any near-term rate cut is effectively off the table. Markets will be closely watching Chair Powell's press conference for language around the inflation and recession outlook.
🗳️ Politics
U.S.-Israel war with Iran enters Day 17 — Israel claims to have struck 200+ Iranian targets in the past 24 hours, including ballistic missile capabilities and air defense systems. Iran reports firing ~700 missiles and 3,600 drones at U.S. and Israeli targets since the war began on February 28.
Trump seeks naval coalition to reopen Strait of Hormuz — President Trump is lobbying allies to send warships to the vital oil chokepoint, claiming "some positive response" — but no country has made a firm commitment. Several said they'd "rather not get involved." Trump also signaled he may delay a planned summit with China if Beijing doesn't help.
